Through the sands of time

I set up the lightbox for Graham and Parker to try their colored sand on the light box this afternoon. We made sand necklaces and sand bracelets too. Then in the evening I had them try out playing with some craft pom poms, pipe cleaners, and wiggle eyes. They had fun in both regular light, with the light box, and with blacklight.

Chess, bears, and light

Graham and Parker asked me a day long to play with the beedals aka the plant water bead thingys. They are starting to fall apart and break easily. I bought them on amazon instead of at the water bead website. Oh well they were still fun. Anyhow, I wanted to let them play with some old glass chess pieces I had first. I scraped off the paper and felt bottoms so that the light would shine through them. Some are clear and some are clear frosted. I don't have all of the pieces anymore but they had fun with them! They added a few of the counting/color sorting bears into the mix and had a "bear party". It was cute. :). Then they played with the water beads but unfortunately they fell to pieces, so now it's definitely time for new ones. They really enjoy their evening light table time though, that's for sure!

I decided to put the gel plant bead squares on the light box today for Graham and Parker to play with, they had a friend over today that played with them too! They had a lot of fun moving them around and trying to stack them, but they are so wobbly and slippery it makes for quite a fun challenge!

Blocks, Counting Fruit, & Lightbox

I pulled some blocks out of the toy box that have translucent parts on them, for some light box play!

Graham and Parker are having a good time!! What a great way to make old toys new again!!

They were done after a while with the blocks and other items, so they asked to have the water beads out!!

The pics are a little mixed, the water bead pics were about 15 minutes after the blocks and other items.

Sand Art Playdate back in August

Here are a few pics from a sand art playdate we had in August. It was a lot of fun but was hard to get pics so there are only a few. I plan to let them play with the colored sand this week and do something fun with it on the lightbox. We have some little fruit shaped necklaces and bracelets left to do more sand art with this week too!

Our new light box arrived this week! I was intrigued when I had first seen the light box used on the Play at Home Mom Blog a few weeks ago, it really is a great idea!! I have some activities planned for them to use it this evening but it can be used in the daytime too. In these pics we used the Silly Squares and Slippery Spheres set from amazon.com.

It was really nice the other day, so we went for a choo choo wagon ride. The weather has been quite mild lately, which has made it so much easier for outdoor play, walks, and wagon rides! It was very sunny though so I double shaded their cars for them! Miss Lori walked with us and even pulled the wagon!

Today, I set up some messy fun for Graham and Parker! I set up their older, faded water table with water, glitter, olive oil, food coloring, plant gel bead thingys, measuring cups, plastic bottles, scoopers, and mini strainers!!

Glow in the dark fun with Playdough and letter cards!

I had to stop by Walgreen's today and found that they had glow in the dark alphabet and numbers. They are like a post it note but in the shapes of letters and numbers. They came with a glue stick as well. So I made a poster board of the alphabet and a poster board of the numbers....only 1-10 though. I also made Name Flashcards. I cut each letter of their name out after pasting them onto a poster board and they came out really nice! The Name Flashcards will make learning their names so much fun in the light, black light, or on a light panel.

I decided we should test them out with the black light as well as some playdough!! FUN! Some of the pics came out blurred but I do not have a big fancy shmancy camera, just a Canon Powershot SX210. NO matter what I did , it blurred a few of them that looked so cool through the lens.

I decided to pull out my old black light for Graham and Parker to have some fun, which by the way the black light still worked! They had a lot of fun!! I plan to do more activities with them too. I was inspired by the Play at Home Mom Blog. They have lots of fun ideas on that blog!
I also changed around the yard and indoor play area quite a bit, and made a "school/learning" area. They are having a blast!! Lately I have been letting them do some of the worksheets from the preschool program I purchased in earlier this year from kidsparkz. Plus a few from their website. They have really enjoyed them!

I am not enforcing "bookwork" but I am letting them do the fun stuff. They enjoy pasting pictures onto alike pictures on a page with glue sticks. I did have to switch to the while glue sticks rather than the ones that go on purple and dry clear. Parker was way too distracted by the purple.

We are taking a break from our playgroup and playdates for now. Just to work on some learning at home. I was going to leave the playgroup at the end of the year but I think maybe the better idea will be to attend less playdates. It was really becoming too much on me to attend playdates 4-6 days per week. It really starts to take a toll on your after a while. I always felt obligated to attend daily playdates, and stuff do because of I doi not host playdates they don't tak place in general. However now I ahve a few ladies in my group who are making extra efforts to be amazing Moms and playdate hosts. I really appreciate that too. It makes things so nice for the group and its members and children to have such fun playdates! I have been burnt out on the playgroup but I have been attending playdate after playdate after playdate for 3 years

I plan to begin attending both our home preschool group events (within the playgroup) as well as 1 playdate each week starting in October.

Anyways here are some fun pics!! I plan to update this blog more often too!! stay tuned!!

Graham and Parker's Backyard Play area

Just some random pics from my 3 year old Twins playing in their outdoor play area today. The tampoline is out of commission right now until the new net arrives in the mail. The old one wore out and ripped. The toys are ones I have accumulated over the 15 years of having kids. Many of them re purposed from inside, or from my older kids. Some were gifts given to Graham and Parker from birth til now. It's nice and relaxing out there in this nice subtle weather. It has seemed a bit cooler and not as sweltering hot lately! So nice!!

The yard may look ghetto to some or too busy, but it serves a great purpose for fun and entertainment for My Twins, their Friends, Playdates, Home Preschooling, Our Home Preschool Group, etc. My older kids are not much for backyard play these days but do enjoy the trampoline and playing with Graham and Parker too. I plan to use the older looking blue water table for more Preschool friendly Science Experiments and other fun exploratory activities that are great for 3-4 year olds!! I have seen a lot of awesome ideas on the Play at Home Mom Blog ! I am going to use the blue water table for a lot of the things they do with their "sink" tables on this page. I can also dump the sand out of our sand & water table into the sandbox and use the sand & water table for that purpose if needed as well! It has a drain plug like the table they use on that blog!! So fa in the past we have done the Lava Lamp and Volcano Science Experiments. They had a great time!! I plan to do one I found that involves ice soon!!

Art Please!

With the help of Aaron and Grandpa, I spent my 35th Birthday away for the day! In the wee hours of the morning I loaded up in my friend L's car with her and my friend E! E and L had never met before but got along so well that they are friends now! We headed off to St. Pete Florida to visit the Salvador Dali Museum! They had just recently opened up the new updated and larger museum back in January. I had visited the old location dozens of times. So for my birthday, I thought it would be ne awesome idea to go and check out the new location!

Just a few cute photos from today's Gymbo class. They still love Gymboree! I still have them in level 6 class and probably around October or November we will move on to School Skills & Sports or Art. I have TEN make up classes right now though so we are going to art & music, as well as family class some days to make them up. I had to keep skipping Gymbo here and there for playdates, other obligations, etc.I took these pics with my iPhone and the Hipstamatic app. Hipstamatic is a lot of fun to use!!

Hello Summer?

I am not sure if words can explain how darn hot it is outside between 11:30 am and 7:00 pm around here. Let's just say going to the park is a tough job....but someone's gotta do it, right? Graham and Parker really do not like to be harbored from getting their "play" on. They enjoy parks, Gymboree, splash pads, The Science Center, The Zoo, The BackYard, aka Twin Wonderland, and any other groovy place we can come up with. However going to the park is sometimes a really tough job. It gets crazy hot here in Ye Ole Winter Park,. Florida. I am pretty sure it gets crazy hot anywhere in Florida. But holy cow it is like a cruel and unusual form of punishment for all Floridians.

I feel like I need to trot on down to The Sharper Image store and buy about a dozen personal cooling systems...or something, despite the fact that I would end up looking like a complete dweeb and/or some sort of alien tagged for future government experiments/testing. Then again if me and my Twins were wearing them, we would definitely look like some sort of tagged or radio controlled aliens, or something of the sort.

I am not sure how many of the personal cooling systems that Sharper Image sells but this guy looks like a total douche in his..... right? Well, I think he looks like a douche. Maybe it is a nice investment for the weary and overheated..... So, do you take the chance of looking like an alien or someone's pet? Oh well, maybe I will go buy one and wear a scarf over it. That would be just fabulous I am sure. Oh better yet I can wear one around each of my body parts and then I can be really special. ;)

What a long strange trip it's been

Chores/Rewards/Discipline System

This week I devised a new chores/rewards/discipline system and so far it is going REALLY well!! I used the chore cards and some of the other parts of the system on www.confessionsofahomeschooler.com It is really great! I did not use her full system though. Instead of having it in a wall hanging, I am using 3 round gladware containers, a set of standard poker chips, and 3 standard sandwich bags. Oh and duct tape to enforce the bags. Each color of poker chip is worth a different amount, each chore card has a point value on it. I have several of chore cards that are made from the blank chore cards from that same website too. So far it is working well. They can earn a lot of things from a trip to get ice cream to a dinner at the restaurant of their choice...and there are more options too. Oh and the biggest bonus you can get is a trip to a theme park, since we live near several. If the kids do something bad they get disciplined by docking their tokens(poker chips) I bought the poker chips from wal-mart for less than $8. They are really nice ones too!! I wrote their value on them with sharpie marker. Basically I wrapped each bottom and side with duct tape to enforce the bag and make it more of a sturdy "bank" bag.. The tokens (poker chips) get heavy if more than a few are in the bag. If the bag is accessed a lot, it will become weak and fall apart eventually. With the duct tape, it becomes a long lasting bag! I am using Confessions of a homeschooler's chore cards and discipline cards for chores. I have them all at a VERY fair face value to earn tokens for all of them. She assigns certain chores as discipline, I don't. All chores are chores with a value. My discipline is docking tokens. Each offense has a certain docking amount. I have a chart to show which offense gets how much taken away. It is very fair. I also have special tickets. They are worth special bonuses or special bonus privileges. The tickets are from the chore card set. Each ticket is for a special thing and has a face value. I hope this continues to work out well for us! Past systems have flopped very early on. This system is only for the older three kids. Twins will not participate until they are older.

Salute Your Shorts

Today one of my Twins, Parker......saluted the flag in a very different way. As you see he is wearing patriotic colors. He was having a great time playing at the Orlando Science Center when his pants fell down. oops! I accidentally caught this little accident on camera when I was taking a wide angle shot of my twins playing in the water. I think it is pretty amusing. Plus he had no idea his pants came down. They had a great time playing though!! The kids had a fun time playing at the Orlando Science Center's 4th of July Celebration. It rained pretty badly for a few hours this evening, so I am kind of glad we scratched our outdoor plans at the last minute. I imagine we would have 5 wet kids, one wet stroller and a lot of glum faces if we had gone ahead with the outdoor 4th of July Festival I had planned for us to attend. I am sure by the end of the night we would have seen some nice fireworks but it may have been a hard road getting there. We felt, at times like we had the whole Science Center to ourselves. There were people there but not too many. We did not see many great fireworks though. The view from their rooftop terrace was lovely but the fireworks were too low at times to see and too far away. The kids did get to have some fun though and in the a/c with no mosquitoes! score!

This Blog has changed.....

I have decided after much thought and time away that I would much rather turn this blog into my own personal blog. However I still want to have blogger guests, so I will!!

I hope my readers will still enjoy this blog as much as before, if not more!

My Twins have really blossomed into three year olds and every day is a fun and exciting challenge. They have become very amusing little comedians and are full of personality!

We have been enjoying the usual fun playdates and visits to places like the zoo, Science Center, parks, etc.
On top of that we took a trip to the Science Center one day with Grandpa. Cameron and Mackenna have been attending a really fun Summer Camp that goes from 7 am til 6pm M-F, We have been having the kona ice shaved ice truck coming to our playdates once a week, We attended a Gymboree art class as well as our regular Gymboree class, We went for frozen yogurt with friends at Menchies, We have had friends over for playdates and swimming in the yard, Oh and not to forget, our home preschool group meets once a week!

My Twins, Graham and Parker... TURNED THREE YEARS OLD TODAY!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WONDERFUL BOYS!!!!

For Moms with school age children, if you are looking for k-12 tutoring...check this out.
I found something interesting online. It is a website called Study Point.
Apparently they work with K-12 students and all of their tutoring is 1-on-1. My oldest son has ADD and I am considering this website to give him extra help. Looks great!!!! By looking over the site. I am impressed with what they have to offer and it seems they have a good sucess rate for helping school age kids do better in school and even on big tests like PSATS, SATS and such. Very Cool!!

Easter Eggs = Science Experiment

On Friday we had a few friends over for back yard Easter Egg Coloring!! The kids had a blast!! We just let them go nuts with it and have a great time. By the time everyone else was "over it", My twins decided now it was time to get Scientific with it. They started mixing and measuring, more mixing, etc etc. They pretty much made it all look like some really intriguing scientific experiment towards the end. They seemed quite "busy" with it all too. Very serious faces there in the end. Lots of concentrating. LOL!!

3rd Birthday

Graham and Parker will be 3 on April 21st. Their birthday party was yesterday. The cake was an issue though.
I arrived at Publix at 9 am. The cake was supposed to be ready. hmm, well they had a cake ready. The problem is. it was the wrong cake. I was sp upset that all I saw was the red, brown and the gray.

I had a mild panic attack that that point.

I saw no animals. I saw no lush green grass and flower patches. I only saw the the drab looking cake for a second.

This is what the cake looked like that they tried to give me..............
It is not that bad but to me it looks liked hell. However this is the Publix version.
The decorator's version of this cake was way darker, way more drab and depressing, and it looked like a sad and depressing birthday cake.

This is the cake I ordered........we did not get this exact version of the cake but the version we did get was decent. See photo at the top of this post for the cake we received.

I had to spend an hour at the grocery store waiting for the replacement cake. The party did go well. Graham and Parker had a fantastic time too. That is all that counts. I just hope Publix never messes up our cake order again. Not to be rude but the decorater they used needs to go take more decorating lessons. She is starting off with too dark of colors for one. The cake she tried to give me with the volcanoes and wrecked plane......it was so very dark and depressing looking. It was not for some depressing biurthday. It was for a Happy Birthday!! Happy means bright colors to little kids. I like to give bright colored things to little kids.

It makes them, well....happy!

We started the party off with an Easter Egg Hunt!! Instead of giving all of the children a goofy bag at the end of the party. They all recieved a plastic easter basket/pail and got to go on an egg hunt. They kept the pail and whatever eggs they collected...and the prizes inside!! They LOVED it!!

Here are a few shots of them opening some of their awesome presents!! They loved everything!!!

I gave them a few of mine early and they have one big one for their actual Birthday on the 21st!! Yay!!!

Garage Door Rides

Today the girls did not take a nap so I thought we would take a walk to a neighbors house. I opened the door to the garage, pushed the button to the garage door and walked back into the kitchen to get something. The girls went into the garage when I opened the door cause they knew we were going to leave. We leave through the garage every. single. day.

As I was headed back toward the garage I heard Avery crying and Emerson calling to me to come. As I walked into the garage I saw Emerson first. She was standing just outside the garage looking up at the garage door (that was all the way up!). I followed her line of vision to see Avery hanging from the garage door crying. My first thought was "what the heck do I do?" I thought about pushing the button to get the door down again, and dismissed that as dumb cause the minute the door started moving she would most likely fall to the concrete below. Then I realized, "HEY! I can reach her!" Then I thought, "should I grab the camera?" I realized that if she fell while I was getting the camera I would feel like the WORST mommy ever. So I ran over and plucked her off the ceiling.

She grabbed me and cried and showed me her hands. They looked fine, but hurt from holding her entire body weight in the air via a piece of metal.

The minute she was safe I started laughing. I couldn't help it. I tried to joke with her about it, but she did not think it was funny. I was calling her spider-kid. She was less then amused. So I apologized and told her I was sorry she had such a scary thing happen to her, and I was glad she was ok. It must have been pretty scary for her cause she usually can see the humor in anything. Lets see if she can laugh about it tomorrow!

You know I always knew garage doors were dangerous coming down, but never thought I needed to warn the girls about them going up...

Angels for Evie - Bake Sale at the Ball Field

This Saturday, March 19th, Brownie Troop 4517 will be holding a bake sale at the Maitland Little League complex in an effort to raise money for Evie Turner. Evie is five-year-old little girl, a former T-Ball player in our league, and a kindergartener at Dommerich Elementary School. She is also a fighter, battling a malignant brain tumor for the past three years. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiation daily, a grueling protocol which doctors expect to render her cancer-free. Until then, community members are raising money to support her family, and you can help by purchasing delicious, homemade baked goods on Saturday. We all hope to see Evie back on the ball field some day!

3 = talk talk talk talk talk

So the theme with Graham and Parker lately is talking. They have really taken off with full sentences. Sometimes I am wondering how they come up with some of what they say.

They will be 3 in April. I am happy they are pretty much on track with most things. I have always been a bit worried because they were born 8 weeks early. Parker is still really small but the pediatrician says he is fine.
Graham is pretty much the size of the average almost 3 year old.

We spend a lot of time with our playgroup. I think it helps a lot.

We have been working on pronouncing words correctly, colors, shapes, counting, songs, signing, all the good stuff. We spend time at the Zoo and Science Center regularly. We also spend lots of time going to the park and other great places like library storytime & craft (on a break from storytime right now though). It is tough to fit in all of the cool places we go to!!

They are doing well socializing and learning. They enjoy seeing their friends. We also are in a weekly home preschool group. They know their friends by name and talk about them when we are at home. They like to talk about the places we go. They ask to go to the places they like best like The Zoo, The Science Center, Certain Parks, they ask to see certain friends or if certain friends will be meeting them for a playdate that day. It's cute! Graham is still more academically advanced. Parker is still athletically advanced. Parker's latest thing is doing head stands and then multiple somersaults in a row. He LOVES the head stands. He sort of does hand stands too. He loves to hang upside down at the park. They still enjoy Gymboree too!! They ask about Gymboree on the days we are not going to our class. They love it!! Graham is still really into reading books. He looks at books a lot all day still. He likes to talk out loud while going through his books. He also likes me to read to him...or any family member.

For our home preschool class we work on learning through play. It has been tough to really get things going the right way but it seems we are on a great path now. I think we finally have a way to get all of the kids interacting involved, and enjoying! I will try and take some pics of our home preschooling soon.

Still working on all of the details of their 3rd birthday party. Should be lots of fun!!

Forced Cuddling and Other Stuff

So they like to cuddle before going to sleep. Not a problem. Totally understandable. Most times I like to cuddle with them as well. Some nights however...I'm just tired, I have a head ache and want them to go to sleep and let me leave without rubbing their face (Avery) or their back (Emerson).

So one night when I was sooooo very tired and just needed some alone time. I was in the midst of forced cuddle time and Emerson said, "Rub my back." I obliged for a few minutes but I was tired and said, "Can we just cuddle?" and she rolled over onto her back and I rapped my arm around her and relaxed for the first time in about 12 hours....Then she did it...she pulled up the front of her shirt so I could rub her stomach...and she did it so obvious yet slyly.

We are planning a vacation, short vacation, to the beach. The other day we had some time to kill so I thought I would treat the girls to their first pedicure. They puffy heart loved it!

I let them pick out the colors they wanted. Avery chose orange of course, it is her favorite color after all. Emerson chose blue. Why? Not sure, but it looks so much better then I thought it would! The lady doing their nails did Emerson's first and put a little flower on her big toe. When she was getting ready to do Avery's Avery kept saying she wanted a "shark" I kept making her repeat it and repeat it till Avery finally said, "You know, hop hop hop." While making her hand go hop like a frog. She was asking for a frog. She got a flower cause the flower was free. Maybe next time I will see if they can draw a frog.

We had a twin friends party last weekend. Petting zoo and pony rides and beer...who could ask for more?

Now for some entertaining thing that have happened lately.

Today Emerson said she had to go "tee tee" she went in the bathroom came out with no pants or panties on. This is not an unusual thing in this house. They do that all the time. She then asked me to lift her up to get something out of the high pantry. I picked her up and had her sitting on my chest. She decided she did not want anything and I put her down. A few seconds latter I was smelling poop. I asked her if she pooped and she said yes. So I told her to head to the bathroom so I could wipe her. We get in there and she has poop smeared up her back. I clean her up and am commenting on how poorly she wiped and that she needs to let me know next time so I can help her all while I'm preparing to wash her and my hands. I look into the mirror and see a thick skid mark on my sweater, my favorite sweater...
We took the car to get an oil change at Midas. They have a keurig machine there and the girls LOVE the hot chocolate so good times at Midas, but on this day they also had biscottis! WOW who could ask for more? I gave them each a biscotti and found out it was going to take an hour for them to just get my car in. I really needed to get this done before vacation so I figured we would also walk over to Office Depot while we waited. As we were walking into the parking lot Avery had one bite of her biscotti left. I grabbed Avery's hand and she went to grab her sisters hand (they know we all have to be holding SOMEones hand in parking lots. Well she couldn't grab her sister hand with the piece of biscotti in her hand so she handed it to her sister. He sister took it and pooped it into her mouth and started to chew and Avery started to yell. Emerson pulled it out of her mouth and put it in her sisters hand with out ever letting go of her sisters hand. Then Avery popped it into her mouth and ate it.
The other night Michelle one of our favorite babysitters watched the girls and had to put them to bed so that Julie and I had a much needed date night. She later told me that Emerson was very calm and relaxed for bed, but Avery was crying and upset. They were laying in bed and Avery was crying. Emerson reached over and held Avery's hand and Avery calmed down started sucking her fingers and they both fell a sleep.

I am constantly amazed at how well they get along, how much they love each other. They really genuinely like each other. I have never had to worry about one of them hitting the other one. I mean there has been the occasional sitting on her sister cause she wanted to sleep in the hole, but for the most part they never fight and always play well together. Is it an identical thing or am I just lucky?
